1/30/2013 – Version 2: Hundreds and hundreds of changes. Too many to list individually

The most common issue was blank passages (no commentary) and misplaced passages (commentary appearing in the wrong verse). Overlapping comments were also creating problems in various books and they have been greatly reduced. A large number of miscellaneous errors were also fixed, based on your feedback. Context: My original source documents are broken into nearly 1,100 files. About 500+ of those files were changed with this revision.

Hundreds of times per year, even today, Lange is quoted and cited in dissertations and books. Lange’s It’s one of the finest academic commentary sets that has ever been produced..

John MacArthur lists Langes as a must-have in its 850 Books for Biblical Expositors.

Cyril Barber (in The Minister’s Library Vol 1) has this set marked with an “*”, meaning it is one of the best. He writes “One of the best multivolume commentaries available….”

Even Charles Spurgeon, who disagreed with portions of Lange’s theology, wrote:

With this volume, the English issue of Lange’s great Commentary is completed, and all ministers and students are deeply indebted to Dr. Schaff and the Messrs. Homiletically, these commentaries are of high value. Often by a single sentence, they will start the mind and give it a push along a line of thought, and this is the chief thing that most of us need.

These works are scans from old books, and as such, I have to go through the text some dozen times looking for places where the OCR is incorrect, blurred, or just skipped something. Then there are the old Bible references like John iii. 16. I have had to invest days and days in macros to read a long text, and make substitutions (above search for "iii" and replace with "3:"). Unfortunately, you have to start with 150 in Roman numerals (CL) and work your way backwards. This takes time and patience, (and being smart enough to do it in a macro language) and then making the text into theWord or eSword, and converting it also into MySword. Different days demand their own special testimony. The watchman who would be faithful to his Lord and to the city of his God needs to carefully note the signs of the times and to emphasize his witness accordingly. Concerning the testimony needed now, there can be little if any doubt. An evil is in the professed camp of the Lord, that is so gross, so brazen in its impudence, that the most shortsighted of spiritual men can hardly fail to notice it.... Amusement for the people is the leading article advertised by each... until the hideous fact has been proved up to the hilt, that "amusement" is ousting "the preaching of the Gospel" as the great attraction... The Concert is fast becoming as much a recognized part of church life as the Prayer Meeting; and it is already, in most places, far better attended.

"Providing recreation for the people" will soon be looked upon as a necessary part of Christian work, and as binding upon the Church of God, as though it were a Divine command, unless some strong voices are raised which will make themselves heard.

Leviticus 19:16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbor: I am the LORD.
The definition of gossip is a person who repeats news or rumors, even murmurings or conversation that hurts other people’s image, when these people are absent and cannot defend themselves. It is a cowardly form to speak about others behind their backs (or being absent) in order to discover something (true or false) about them that they would not say in front of that person to their face because it is insulting or would humiliate the person. Gossip is an attack against the person they are talking about.

Give a Cup of Water in my Name Matthew 10:42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

Christians who give even a small cup of water will not lose their reward for doing this. God will not overlook their effort to help others in the work of the Lord. To help others is rewarded by God, especially when you are helping the weak, the small young ones (think new believers), the helpless like widows in the Bible, those who cannot provide for themselves. So, my websites are for these kinds of people. I am providing material that is good sound doctrinal material, fundamentalist, conservative, biblical material.

But what I am doing is in the name of the Lord. I am not trying to get rich, but I am just trying to pay my bills from this ministry. My wife and I have personally supported our internet sites with my sermons, tracts, books, etc. and other good solid works for some 20 years now, paying for everything from our living expenses. We have had donations from some few people, about 3 or 4 a year, mostly under $30. That doesn't even begin to address the hundreds of dollars we pay hosting companies to maintain this ministry. While our downloads from these sites reach 40 gigabytes per month, donations don't seem to be in people's minds.
