Kent, Charles Foster – The Messages of the Bible (11 vols)

Part paraphrase, part commentary, part survey, and part critical notes, this massive work was likely the inspiration for the modern day “Message Bible” by Eugene H. Peterson. The difference is that this resource is not in “Bible verse format”. This resource is grouped according to natural classification and order of appearance. See the complete list of contents at the end of this description.

Baxter Directions for a Peaceful Death is an article of 15 points on a Christian approaching his death and what he should be thinking about. This theme is good for the sick, but everybody should also meditate on these things. (Baxter is reformed).

In addition to examining the 66 book Protestant cannon, this book also examines the Apocrypha and other ancient writings (i.e. see the review of all Apocalyptic literature in comparison with Revelation).

Although not a substitute for the Bible (see the Introduction, subsection, “How To Make Use Of A Paraphrase”), this resource offers a scholarly, reverent, appreciative, and enthusiastic reading of the Bible.

Have you ever wondered why God used the illustration of a shepherd, rather than that of a cowboy? The reason lies in their differences. Their way of dealing with the animals is distinct. They reflect character differences that God wants to teach us. Lordship is an issue in leadership, and shepherds are humble examples rather than high exalted lords (like cowboys sitting high on tall horses). Shepherds are examples that cause a following. Cowboys push, prode, hurt, and only through that get anything done.

These works are scans from old books, and as such, I have to go through the text some dozen times looking for places where the OCR is incorrect, blurred, or just skipped something. Christians who give even a small cup of water will not lose their reward for doing this. God will not overlook their effort to help others in the work of the Lord. To help others is rewarded by God, especially when you are helping the weak, the small young ones (think new believers), the helpless like widows in the Bible, those who cannot provide for themselves. So, my websites are for these kinds of people. I am providing material that is good sound doctrinal material, fundamentalist, conservative, biblical material.

But what I am doing is in the name of the Lord. I am not trying to get rich, but I am just trying to pay my bills from this ministry. My wife and I have personally supported our internet sites with my sermons, tracts, books, etc. and other good solid works for some 20 years now, paying for everything from our living expenses. We have had donations from some few people, about 3 or 4 a year, mostly under $30. That doesn't even begin to address the hundreds of dollars we pay hosting companies to maintain this ministry. While our downloads from these sites reach 40 gigabytes per month, donations don't seem to be in people's minds.
